2009 Legislative Agenda

 

Cancer Prevention and Treatment, 1–Screening; 2–Treatment (Senator Rosenbaum – SB 891 and 892)   Increase the number of women screened by the Oregon Breast and Cervical Cancer Program; Expand eligibility for federally funded treatment for breast and cervical cancer.

Access to Clinical Trials (Senator Devlin – SB 316)   Require insurance coverage for routine costs of care to continue when a person participates in a potentially life saving medical research trial. 

Preventative Prescriptions for Partners (Rep. Greenlick – HB 3022)  Establish expedited partner therapy (EPT) to decrease STI re-infection rates by allowing prescriptions for medicine to be given to the partner of a patient without a doctor’s office visit.

Paid Family Leave (Senator Rosenbaum, Rep. Cannon, Rep. Dembrow – HB 3160)  Create a family leave insurance program providing up to 6 weeks of paid leave to care for a new child or seriously ill family member.

Maternal Mental Health (Rep. Tomei – HB 2666 and HJR 15)  Highlight the prevalence and effects of prenatal and post-partum mental illness by declaring March as Maternal Mental Health Month; create a DHS work group to study prenatal and post-partum mental health.

Domestic Violence Specialists in Child Welfare Offices (Rep. Tomei – HB 3273)  Better protect women and children who are victims of domestic violence by expanding current programs that place DV specialists in child welfare offices.

Expand Eligibility for Prenatal Care (Rep. Kotek – HB 2597)  Increase access to prenatal care by raising the income eligibility for pregnant women.

Economic Safety for Victims of Domestic Violence (Senator Devlin – SB 928)  Prohibit firing or demoting victims of domestic or sexual violence solely on the basis of their victimization.

Children’s Toy Safety (Rep. Holvey – HB 2367 and 2792)  Restrict the use of dangerous chemicals prevalent in children’s products, particularly BPA and phthalates.

HPV Vaccine Insurance Coverage (Senator Rosenbaum and Rep. Tomei – HB 2794)  Ensure that all state regulated insurance companies provide coverage for the HPV vaccine which prevents cervical cancer.

Equal Accountability for Perpetrators of Sexual Assault (Rep. Gelser – HB 2343/SB 210) Hold accountable all rapists who prey on victims who are mentally incapacitated due to extreme levels of intoxication.

Birth Anomaly Registry (Senator Monnes Anderson – SB 460)  Create a data collection and tracking system in DHS to monitor abnormal birth outcomes.
